Molly Barlow returns to her hometown of Starling Bay, Michigan, after a year away, hoping to get through the summer quietly. The town remembers the scandal that sent her away: she had a secret relationship with Patrick Hannigan, her boyfriend Gus's brother, and the fallout made her a local pariah. Katie Cotugno counts down the ninety-nine days of the summer, moving between the present and flashbacks, as Molly faces Gus, Patrick, her friends and her own choices, and tries to work out what she wants.
It's a good read for young adult fans of contemporary romance who like flawed narrators and small-town drama. The book is about forgiveness, second chances and the shape of regret.
Practical, clear-cut and escapist; an easy read.
