About the book

Patroclus is a clumsy young prince, exiled from his home after an accidental killing, and sent to the court of King Peleus, where he meets the golden Achilles. The boys become friends, then lovers, and spend years training under the centaur Chiron on Mount Pelion. When the Greeks gather to retrieve Helen from Troy, Achilles, whose sea-goddess mother Thetis has always disliked Patroclus, is drawn into the war, and Patroclus follows him, narrating each step toward the end.

For readers who enjoy mythology told with intimacy and tenderness. It gives a fresh angle on the Iliad, focused on love rather than glory.
