About the book

A scientist known only as the Time Traveller invites a group of Victorian dinner guests to see a model of his machine, and later returns from the future with a tale. He tells them he reached the year 802,701, where humanity has split into two species: the gentle, childlike Eloi, who live above ground, and the underground Morlocks, who feed on them. He befriends an Eloi girl, Weena, loses his machine, and searches for it, then travels farther forward to a dying Earth. H.G. Wells wrote it in 1895 as a social fable.

Fits readers who want a short classic that started modern science fiction. It rewards those interested in class division and what a long future might hold.
