Brian Michael Bendis starts his run by bringing the original five X-Men, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman and Angel, forward in time from the 1960s to the present. Beast, now a hunted mutant revolutionary, has done it in a desperate attempt to show a grim, angry Cyclops what he has become. The teenagers meet their older selves, discover the consequences of the choices to come, and cannot go home. Stuart Immonen's art carries the story, which also involves Wolverine and the Jean Grey School.
Readers who like time-travel superhero stories and the early X-Men will find a lively entry point. It suits those who know the team's history and enjoy seeing it questioned.
