All You Zombies by Robert A. Heinlein
Insights from All You Zombies
“I know where I came from—but where did all you zombies come from?”
Jane grew up feeling like a total outsider. It makes so much sense once you see how she literally is her own world.
“I was my own father and my own mother.”
The bartender creates his own past by being the only person he can trust. It makes me wonder if we all just talk to ourselves in different voices.
“I was a very pretty girl.”
That scene in the 1960s park is so strange. He is falling in love with a younger version of himself without even knowing it.
“He looked like me. He was me.”
Every single person in the story is just one person at a different age. It makes the loneliness feel so much heavier.
