About the book

Auden West is a diligent high school graduate who spent her youth focused on academic achievement to please her intellectual parents. Before starting college, she spends the summer in the coastal town of Colby with her father and his new family. There, she meets Eli, a fellow insomniac and former BMX athlete who is grieving the death of a friend. Together, they embark on nightly quests, performing the childhood activities Auden missed, such as learning to ride a bike and attending a late-night food fight.

Teenagers and young adults who feel pressured by high expectations or adult responsibilities read this story to see a character navigate the transition into independence. The book provides a look at how to reconcile a difficult relationship with a parent while forming a social circle for the first time. Readers walk away with a perspective on how small, spontaneous experiences can balance a life formerly dominated by rigid goals and sleeplessness.
