About the book

Charlie, a shy fifteen-year-old, writes letters to an anonymous recipient about starting high school in Pittsburgh in the early 1990s. His close friend Michael has died, his sister is with an unkind boyfriend, and he feels outside the world until the seniors Sam and Patrick adopt him. He finds friendship, music and books recommended by his English teacher Bill, and he also faces a first love and memories of his aunt Helen that he has pushed aside.

A solid pick for teenagers who feel on the margins and for adults who recall that feeling. It gives you a frank, tender view of adolescence, friendship and trauma.
