This young-adult anthology of linked romances is set during a heat wave in New York City when a citywide blackout strikes. Six Black authors, Tiffany D. Jackson, Dhonielle Clayton, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk and Nicola Yoon, each write a chapter about a different pair of teenagers whose lives intersect as the lights go out. The stories include old friends, exes, new loves and a possible meet-cute. The setting turns a power failure into a space for confessions, risks and second chances.
Teen readers and fans of any of the contributors will enjoy the mix of voices. It is a good read for anyone who likes summer romance and a connected cast of characters.
Practical, clear-cut and escapist; an easy read.
Best for readers like The Escapist Adventurer. Which reader are you?
