Denji is a teenager so poor that he has sold his organs and works as a devil hunter, paying off his dead father's debts to the yakuza with the help of his pet, Pochita, a small chainsaw devil. When the yakuza betray and kill him, Pochita merges with his body and brings him back, turning him into a hybrid who can sprout chainsaws from his arms and head. Public Safety agent Makima then recruits him. Tatsuki Fujimoto's first volume sets up the series' fast, violent action and its dry, offbeat humor, with a hero who wants only a normal, comfortable life.
It suits manga readers who like dark shonen with unusual tone. It is not for the squeamish.
Escapist; a moderate read.
