Written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in 1845 and 1846, this work sets out the materialist view of history. They argue that ideas reflect the material conditions and the division of labour of each era, that the ruling class controls the dominant ideas, and that history moves through changing modes of production. A large part criticises the Young Hegelians, Feuerbach, Bruno Bauer and Max Stirner.
For readers of political philosophy and the history of Marxism who want the origins of historical materialism. It is polemical and was left unpublished in the authors' lifetime, so it is best read with an introduction.
Deep and outward-looking; a demanding read.
Best for readers like The Systems Thinker. Which reader are you?
