Do Que Eu Falo Quando Eu Falo de Corrida
Haruki Murakami writes about two things he has done for decades: writing novels and running. The book is a memoir put together from essays written over several years, starting from the time he sold his jazz bar in Tokyo and began to run daily, up to his participation in marathons and the triathlon. He describes training for the New York City Marathon, an ultramarathon of sixty miles in Japan, and the physical and mental discipline both running and writing require. He talks about aging, about talent and about the value of persistence and routine.
Runners will recognize the details, and writers will notice parallels to their own working habits. It is also a good introduction to Murakami for readers who have not tried his fiction, as it reveals his temperament in a direct, understated way.
Inward-looking and contemplative; a moderate read.
Best for readers like The Empathetic Explorer. Which reader are you?
