About the book

Aeneas, a Trojan prince, escapes the burning city of Troy carrying his father on his back and leading his young son by the hand. Virgil's epic poem follows his long voyage to Italy. He stays with Queen Dido in Carthage, a love that ends in her suicide when he leaves to obey fate. He travels to the underworld to meet his father, then fights Turnus and the Latins for the land where his descendants will found Rome. The first six books mirror the Odyssey and the last six echo the Iliad, written to give Augustan Rome a legendary origin.

It suits readers of classics and students of Latin literature. Expect an epic about duty and cost, not just conquest.
