About the book

Robert Walton, an Arctic explorer, writes to his sister about a stranger he rescues on the ice: Victor Frankenstein. Victor tells his story: a Genevan student of natural philosophy who, at Ingolstadt, assembles a creature from body parts and gives it life, then flees in horror. The abandoned creature, intelligent and articulate, teaches itself language, is rejected by everyone, and demands a companion. When Victor refuses, the creature takes revenge on his family, including his brother William and his bride Elizabeth.

A good pick for readers who want the original of the modern science-fiction monster story. It leaves a thoughtful question about responsibility toward what we create.
