Edited by Holly Black and Cecil Castellucci, this anthology collects short stories by young adult authors about geeks and the things they love. The pieces cover comic conventions, Dungeons and Dragons, Star Wars fandom, Renaissance fairs, robots, zombies, and the awkward business of falling for someone who shares your obsessions. Contributors include Libba Bray, Cory Doctorow, Scott Westerfeld, Garth Nix, and others, with tones ranging from silly to tender. Several stories are about teenagers finding a place where they fit.
This is a good pick for teen readers who consider themselves nerds, and for adults who remember being one. Because every story stands alone, it works for readers who want short bursts of fiction, or who are looking for a sample of many young adult authors in one place.
Practical, clear-cut and escapist; an easy read.
Best for readers like The Escapist Adventurer. Which reader are you?
