About the book

In Venice, two orphans, Prosper and his younger brother Bo, have run away from their aunt and uncle, who wanted to separate them. They fall in with a gang of street children led by Scipio, who calls himself the Thief Lord and steals from wealthy houses and sells the loot. A detective hired by the aunt and uncle follows them, and the group is drawn into the job of finding a missing part of a magical carousel that can change a person's age. Cornelia Funke fills the canals and alleys of Venice with mystery and humor.

It suits children and adults who like adventure with a fairy-tale tone. It is a good family read-aloud for older children.
