Neil Gaiman returns to the world of his novel Neverwhere with this short story set in London Below. The Marquis de Carabas, a cunning and elegant fixer, has lost his coat, a magical garment that holds a secret, and asks for help to get it back. He recruits the narrator and travels across the strange underworld of the city, dealing with an Old Bailey trial in the world of rats, shadows and exchanges of favors. Gaiman gives a short caper full of invention and dry humor.
