Rose and Maggie Feller are sisters who could hardly be less alike. Rose is a successful Philadelphia lawyer who is unhappy with her body and her love life. Maggie is beautiful, impulsive, dyslexic and drifting from job to job. After Maggie sleeps with Rose's boyfriend, their relationship breaks down. Maggie then tracks down a grandmother she was told was dead, Ella, and moves to a retirement community in Florida. Jennifer Weiner alternates between the sisters as each has to rethink her habits, and the shoes of the title serve as a running symbol of how each woman sees herself.
It is a good fit for readers who like funny, warm women's fiction about sisters, body image and family secrets. If you want a story with real emotional stakes but a light touch, this one is easy to settle into.
Inward-looking and clear-cut; an easy read.
Best for readers like The Empathetic Explorer. Which reader are you?
