About the book

Georg Røed, fifteen, receives a letter written by his father, Jan Olav, who died when Georg was four. In it, Jan Olav tells the story of how he met a mysterious girl carrying a bag of oranges on a Oslo tram, and how that meeting changed his life. He wrote it, knowing he was dying, so that Georg could read it when he was older, and Georg's reading of it makes him think about his own life, love and what makes existence worthwhile.

It is for readers who like thoughtful, short novels with a philosophical streak. It suits teens and adults who enjoy Gaarder's blend of story and big questions.
