About the book

Pi Patel, an Indian teenager who has just left Pondicherry with his zookeeper parents, survives the sinking of a freighter off the coast of Manila. He shares a small lifeboat with a wounded zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and a full-grown Bengal tiger. Over more than seven months at sea, he rigs a raft, trains the tiger through fear and routine, and keeps his sanity by praying in the three religions he follows.

If you like survival tales with an unusual narrator, this one rewards you. It also works as a short reflection on why people believe what they believe, and its final chapter makes you reconsider everything you just read.
