In the sixth volume of Riad Sattouf's autobiographical comic series, the young man who grew up between France, Libya and Syria is now an adult making his way as a cartoonist in Paris. The book covers the years from 1994 to 2011, and shows his studies, first jobs and changing relationship with his Syrian father and French mother, while Syria and the Middle East continue to loom in the background.
It is for readers who followed the earlier volumes, and it closes the series with a more reflective tone. It is a good read for anyone interested in identity, family and the cost of political upheaval.
Balanced in tone; an easy read.
Best for readers like The Escapist Adventurer. Which reader are you?
