Justine is a young woman who works at a retirement home in Burgundy, where she cares for residents and listens to their memories. She is drawn to the stories of the old people, especially of Hélène, and she begins to write down the lives of those who have been forgotten, whom nobody visits on Sundays. Her curiosity about a mystery that involves a man named Lucien Perrin and Hélène's past leads her to uncover secrets that touch her own history, since she was herself abandoned as a baby.
A warm, melancholy French novel for readers who like stories of memory, old age and found family. It is gentle and emotional.
Practical and clear-cut; an easy read.
Best for readers like The Curious Generalist. Which reader are you?
