About the book

On New Year's Eve in 1984, eighty-five-year-old Lillian Boxfish sets out for a walk around Manhattan. She was once the highest-paid advertising copywriter in the city, working at Macy's in the 1930s, and she remembers her career, her marriage, her son and her struggle with depression while she meets the people of the city: a young man, a pair of bankers, a bartender. The novel is based on a real figure, the poet and copywriter Margaret Fishback. Each step brings a story from the past.

It is a pleasing read for people who like urban strolling, mid-century New York and independent women.
