About the book

The painter Basil Hallward is captivated by the beauty of Dorian Gray, and paints a portrait of him. At the studio, Lord Henry Wotton praises pleasure and warns that youth fades. Dorian, afraid of aging, wishes that his portrait would bear the marks of time instead of him. Soon afterward he rejects the actress Sibyl Vane and begins a life of cruelty, while the canvas shows what he has done. His secret becomes harder to keep hidden.

Ideal for readers of Victorian fiction who like wit, decadence and a sinister twist. It leaves a lingering question about the relation between appearance and conscience.
