Pirate Hunters: Treasure, Obsession, and the Search for a Legendary Pirate Ship

About the book

Robert Kurson tells the true story of John Chatterton, a New Jersey diver, and John Mattera, a former Wall Street trader, who go after the wreck of a pirate ship off the coast of the Dominican Republic. The ship, they believe, belonged to the pirate Joseph Bannister, and they spend years working with local authorities, rivals and dangerous waters. Kurson follows their obsessions, setbacks and obstacles, and fills in the history of Bannister and his ship.

Readers who like narrative non-fiction and adventure will enjoy it. Fans of Kurson's earlier Shadow Divers will see a similar mix of diving and detective work.
