Patricia Lockwood, a poet, moves back with her husband into her parents' house in a Kansas City rectory. Her father, Greg Lockwood, is a Catholic priest, which is unusual because he was formerly a married Lutheran minister and received a special dispensation. The memoir describes his eccentric habits, such as wandering the house in a bathrobe, playing the guitar loudly and his enthusiasm for guns, as well as her mother's habits. Lockwood also recalls her own childhood, her faith, and what it means to return to a family home as an adult. The prose is full of comic imagery.
It's for readers who like funny memoirs about difficult families and religion. Poetry fans will enjoy her inventive language.
