Sophie Bangs is a college student in a futuristic New York City researching a recurring mythological figure named Promethea. Her investigation reveals that Promethea is not a fictional character but an entity from the Immateria, a realm sustained by human imagination. Sophie becomes the newest vessel for this spirit, inheriting the ability to manifest the warrior-poet’s physical form through creative expression. The narrative follows Sophie as she survives attacks from the Five Swell, a team of science-heroes, while learning to navigate the geography of the astral plane.
Readers interested in the intersection of Western occultism and comic book history value this volume for its visual experimentation and metaphysical detail. The book serves as a structural map of the Hermetic Qabalah and the Tarot, translating complex magical theories into a sequential art format. Those who study the mechanics of storytelling and symbolic logic read it to understand how myths function as living history. A reader leaves with a functional vocabulary for discussing the occult and an awareness of how subjective thought shapes objective reality.
