Frances Janvier is a top student who has done almost everything right in order to get into a good university. Her secret is that she is the creator of Universe City, a hugely popular podcast, though no one knows who she is. When she meets Aled Last, the artist behind the podcast's fan art, who turns out to be a classmate she barely knew, a friendship develops. Alice Oseman uses the pair to examine the pressures of exams, the tension between creative passion and an academic path, and the problems of online fame and the secrets Aled keeps about his family.
It suits teenagers and adults who like contemporary YA about friendship, fandom, and anxiety about the future. Readers of Heartstopper will recognize the warm, funny voice.
Inward-looking; an easy read.
