About the book

Adam Thorn, a seventeen-year-old gay boy in a small American town, has a day in which everything seems to come to a head. His ex-boyfriend is leaving, his religious family is controlling, and he has to deal with his best friend and with a boy he likes. At the same time, the ghost of a murdered girl, Katie, appears, and a mysterious Queen who is a supernatural being brings the story to a strange level. Patrick Ness mirrors the plot of Mrs. Dalloway, taking place over the course of one day, in two overlapping stories.

It suits young adult readers who like realistic stories about identity and family with a touch of fantasy. It is moving but not heavy. It offers plenty to talk over with a friend or a reading group once you reach the last page.
