Joe Carpenter is a man still grieving a year after his wife and young daughter died in a plane crash. On the anniversary, he meets a mysterious woman who says that something remarkable happened to the victims of the crash, and he learns of a conspiracy involving a sinister group that seeks to cover up the truth. As Joe investigates, he is pursued by killers, and finds help from an unlikely source. Koontz blends suspense with the supernatural in this novel, where the hero's grief gives way to a fight for survival.
