Stick Man lives in a family tree with his Stick Lady Love and their stick children, until one morning he goes for a jog and is picked up by a dog who wants to play fetch. From there he is swept along, used as a flag, a pooh-sticks entry, an oar and a swan's nest, and he is pulled farther from home. Julia Donaldson's rhyme is paired with Axel Scheffler's pictures, and the story reaches a warm end on Christmas Eve.
Young children, around three to six, enjoy the rhyme and the funny mishaps, and parents get a story to read aloud that holds up to repetition. It is a cozy tale of getting home.
Practical, clear-cut and thought-provoking; an easy read.
