Lev Grossman retells the Arthurian legend from the point of view of Collum, a young man who arrives at Camelot after the king's fall. In the aftermath of the final battle, a small group of surviving knights, including Sir Bedivere, is left to carry on the Round Table's ideals, and Collum is pulled into their quests. Grossman keeps the traditional elements, such as the Grail and the knights' rivalries, but treats them with modern humor and sympathy for those on the edges of the legend.
Readers of Arthurian fiction, and fans of Grossman's Magicians trilogy, will enjoy a witty novel that asks what happens after a great story ends.
Balanced in tone; a moderate read.
