About the book

Princess Magnolia is preparing for a peaceful picnic with her friend Princess Sneezewort when a blue monster alarm interrupts her plans. She quickly changes into her secret identity, the Princess in Black, to confront a group of fluff-covered bunnies emerging from a hole to Monster Land. While these creatures appear cute and harmless, they possess an insatiable appetite and begin eating everything in their path, including the meadow grass and the Princess’s own cape. She must find a way to stop the multiplying hoard without hurting the tiny nibblers, eventually teaming up with the Goat Avenger to solve the problem and save the kingdom’s greenery.

This book serves early elementary school readers who are transitioning from picture books to short chapter books. It appeals to children who enjoy stories that subvert traditional fairy tale tropes by featuring a protagonist who is both a royal and a capable monster-hunter. Readers gain a sense of accomplishment from the accessible vocabulary and frequent illustrations. They walk away with a humorous lesson on looking past appearances and the practical value of teamwork and quick thinking when dealing with unexpected chaos.
