The Stormlight Archive takes place on Roshar, a world ravaged by cyclonic highstorms that provide the magical energy required to fuel gemstones and ancient armor. This collection follows the war between the Alethi kingdoms and the Parshendi on the Shattered Plains. The narrative centers on Kaladin, a slave struggling with his wind-based powers; Shallan, a scholar practicing the art of soulcasting; and Dalinar, a general haunted by visions of a forgotten history. Together, they attempt to refound the Knights Radiant to prevent the Desolation, an apocalyptic event heralded by the return of the Voidbringers.
This set serves readers who prioritize rigorous magic systems and expansive ecological world-building. Fans of high fantasy utilize these volumes to track intricate political alliances and cross-referenced lore across a massive cast of characters.
