Yoshiki and Hikaru are best friends in a small, isolated village in rural Japan. When Hikaru goes missing in the mountains for a week and returns, Yoshiki senses that something is wrong: the person who came back looks and acts like Hikaru, but is not him. Yoshiki decides to stay near the thing wearing his friend's face, even though he knows it is dangerous, and the first volume introduces the village's odd customs and the unsettling intimacy between the two.
