Artemisia is a young nun who serves a religious order that protects the living from the restless dead in a world where ghosts rise and linger. After a terrifying attack by a revenant, she is sent to a remote chapel to guard a saint's relic. When something ancient attaches itself to her, she must decide whether to trust it. Rogerson blends gothic horror, a sharp-tongued heroine and a slow-burn romance with a very unusual companion.
Readers of fantasy who like dark, atmospheric settings, a prickly main character and an unlikely bond will find this entertaining. It stands alone, so it is a good choice if you want a complete story in one volume.
Practical, clear-cut and escapist; an easy read.
