About the book

K., a land surveyor, arrives in a snow-covered village hoping to start work for the authorities of the nearby Castle. No one confirms that he has been hired, and each attempt to reach the Castle's officials, among them the elusive Klamm, leads to more bureaucracy, rumors, and delays. He settles in the village, takes up with a barmaid named Frieda, and struggles to get recognition. Franz Kafka left the novel unfinished, and its text stops in the middle of a sentence.

It suits readers who like Kafka's bureaucratic nightmares and open-ended stories. If The Trial left you wanting more, this is a longer, slower, stranger look at the same fear of being powerless.
