Der Prophet

by Kahlil Gibran

1993•Patmos Verlag GmbH & Co KG•DE
About the book

Almustafa, a prophet who has lived in the city of Orphalese for twelve years, is about to board a ship back to his island. Before he leaves, the townspeople ask him for his wisdom, and he answers in twenty-six short prose poems on love, marriage, children, giving, work, joy and sorrow, crime, freedom, friendship, death and others. Kahlil Gibran wrote the book in English and published it in 1923, and its language recalls the King James Bible.

Gift-givers and those who enjoy spiritual verse will find a calm, quotable volume. Many dip into a single chapter at a time, at weddings, births and farewells.
