Der Begriff des Politischen. Text von 1932 mit einem Vorwort und drei Corollarien
In 1932, the German jurist Carl Schmitt argued that the essence of politics is the distinction between friend and enemy. He says that politics is not the same as the state, economy, or morality, and that a political community is defined by its readiness to fight an enemy. He criticizes liberal ideas of neutrality and of a world without conflict.
It is an influential and controversial text of political theory, to be read critically in light of Schmitt's later association with the Nazi regime. It rewards those studying sovereignty and the nature of conflict.
Deep and outward-looking; a demanding read.
