About the book

Karl Lionheart, a sickly ten-year-old boy, is told he will die soon. His older brother Jonathan tells him about Nangijala, a land beyond the stars where he can live in a world of sagas and campfires. When Jonathan dies in a fire while saving Karl, Karl follows him a little later and meets him in Nangijala. They live in the Cherry Valley, but the neighbouring Wild Rose Valley is ruled by the tyrant Tengil, who has a fearsome dragon, Katla. The brothers join the resistance. Astrid Lindgren's story deals with death, courage and loyalty.

Children from about ten, and adults who remember reading it as children, will find a moving and sometimes dark adventure. It is a book about brotherhood and about facing fear and loss.
