About the book

A narrator recalls joining the League, a secret society of seekers, on a pilgrimage across time and space to the East, with companions that include figures from fiction and history. The group is led by Leo, a servant who seems to hold things together. Midway, the narrator loses his faith in the mission when Leo disappears, and the group breaks apart. Years later, he finds Leo again and learns that the servant was the head of the League. Hesse wrote the story after his own experience with Eastern thought.

Fans of Siddhartha and The Glass Bead Game will find a smaller, more cryptic book here. It suits anyone who likes allegory about seeking, loyalty and service.

Reading profile
