About the book

In the year 2038, a tiny black hole that scientists lost control of falls into the Earth and begins consuming the planet from the inside. Alex Lustig, a physicist, tries to track it, while a world on the verge of ecological crisis, political conflict and information overload struggles to cope. David Brin's novel follows many characters, among them scientists, politicians and activists, and uses the disaster to examine technology, privacy, the spread of information and what societies do when the end appears near.

Science fiction readers who like big-idea, multi-thread novels with a hard-science backbone will find a rich read. It also suits those curious about early predictions of a networked world.
