El pintor de batallas

About the book

Faulques is a former war photographer who now spends his days painting an enormous mural on the inside of an old watchtower on the Spanish coast. He wants to compress all the wars he has seen into a single image. His isolation is broken when a Croatian man, Ivo Markovic, appears, saying that Faulques once photographed him during the Balkan war and that the photo made his life worse. Arturo Pérez-Reverte, himself a former war correspondent, turns their conversations into a meditation on images, guilt and violence.

It is a good fit for readers who like philosophical novels about art and war, and who prefer dialogue and ideas over action.
