Il Club del libro e della torta di bucce di patata di Guernsey

About the book

In 1946 the London writer Juliet Ashton, tired of the war's aftermath and looking for her next book idea, receives a letter from Dawsey Adams, a farmer on Guernsey who owns a book that once belonged to her. Their correspondence leads her to the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, a book club invented during the German occupation to cover for an illegal pig roast. The novel is told entirely in letters, bringing in Elizabeth McKenna, who was taken to a camp, and her young daughter Kit.

If you like warm epistolary novels, island settings, and quiet historical fiction about ordinary people, this is a gentle choice. You leave with affection for its characters and a bit of history about the Channel Islands in wartime.
