Imogen Scott is a high school senior who has always thought of herself as straight and who has a reputation for being the friend of everyone. Then she discovers, to her surprise, that she may not be as straight as she thought, and a lie she tells her friends leads to a fake girlfriend scenario, as she tries to hide and explore her feelings at the same time. Albertalli's novel is a light comedy about identity and honesty, with a cast of friends and family in suburban America.
Young readers who like romantic comedies and are exploring their own identity will find it warm. It's a quick and funny read.
Inward-looking and clear-cut; an easy read.
