About the book

Louisiana Elefante, a young girl, is woken in the middle of the night by her grandmother, who announces that they must leave Florida. They drive north in a car and cross into Georgia, where the grandmother's tooth begins to hurt. Louisiana finds herself stuck in a small town after the car breaks down, in the care of a pastor and a group of local friends. Kate DiCamillo returns to Louisiana from her earlier novel Raymie Nightingale. The story deals with family secrets, belonging and the fear of being left behind.

Middle-grade readers and adults who enjoy DiCamillo's warm, quirky storytelling will find a short novel with a clear voice.
