In October 1972, a plane carrying a Uruguayan rugby team and their friends and relatives crashed in the Andes mountains, and Nando Parrado, one of the survivors, tells the story of what happened. Sixteen of the forty-five people on board lived for seventy-two days in the snow, without proper clothing or food, and had to eat the bodies of the dead to survive. Parrado writes about losing his mother and sister, and about how he and another survivor, Roberto Canessa, decided to climb through the mountains to look for help, a trek of many days. He also describes his life after.
It's for readers who like true survival accounts and stories of endurance. It gives a candid and moving look at human limits and at what keeps people alive.
Clear-cut; an easy read.
