About the book

This is a retelling of the Ramayana, the Sanskrit epic by Valmiki, by C. Rajagopalachari. Prince Rama of Ayodhya is exiled for fourteen years because of a promise his father made to a queen. He goes into the forest with his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana. When the demon king Ravana abducts Sita, Rama allies with Hanuman and an army of monkeys to rescue her, crossing the sea to Lanka and fighting a great war. The story ends with his return and coronation.

Rajagopalachari writes in a simple, clear style intended for ordinary readers. It suits anyone who wants an accessible version of the story and the values of duty, loyalty, and righteousness that it presents.
