About the book

Trish Edgewood is a recruiter for the Slumber Corps, an organization that collects blood from healthy sleepers in a United States hit by an epidemic of insomnia. Donors' sleep is transfused to the afflicted, and the program grows into something between a medical service and a cause. Karen Russell, in this novella, builds a strange economy and religion around the disease, and tracks Trish's growing doubts about the program and her own sleeplessness.

It suits readers who like short, literary speculative fiction with dark humor. Those interested in satire of institutions and in the metaphors of sleep and exhaustion will find it worthwhile.
