About the book

Carlos Castaneda continues the account of his apprenticeship to the Yaqui sorcerer don Juan Matus, with the focus now on what don Juan calls the "tonal" and the "nagual", two aspects of reality. Castaneda describes a series of encounters and lessons in which he is asked to alter his perception, to understand the idea of "stopping the world" and to confront his own limits. Together with don Genaro, don Juan leads him through experiences that challenge his notions of what is real. The book is presented as an anthropological account.

Readers of the earlier books in the series and those interested in 1970s counterculture and spiritual literature will find a continuation. It should be read as an influential, though disputed, work of mystical storytelling, and it suits those who enjoy philosophical adventure.
