About the book

Frank owns a record shop on a shabby street in an English town in the 1980s, in a world that has already moved to CDs. He sells only vinyl and has a gift for finding the right track for each customer's needs. His life is changed when Ilse Brauchmann, a German woman in a green coat, faints in front of his door and asks him to teach her about music. He falls in love, but cannot say so, and the shop's neighbours and the pressure of redevelopment threaten his world.

Music lovers and fans of gentle, quirky British novels will enjoy it, as will anyone who believes a song can mend something. It is warm and nostalgic.
